Through the Online Activation Tool, a new customer can turn on up to five lines. Existing customers must visit a Metro by T-Mobile store or call Customer Care at 1-888-8-metro8 to activate a new line.

The Online Activation Tool can’t help customers who are already signed up. Customers who already have an account can add new lines by going to a Metro by T-Mobile store or calling Customer Care at 1-888-8metro8.

What do I have to turn on?

New SIM card and phone:

You will need a phone that works with Metro by T-Mobile and a new SIM card ready.

Pick a payment plan:

To finish activation, you’ll need to choose a plan and pay for your first month of service.

Email address:

A valid email address that has never been used for a Metro by T-Mobile account before.

Call this number:

We can give you a new number, or you can keep the one you already have. We’ll help you set up your old number if it’s from a carrier that’s eligible (not T-Mobile, etc.). Just bring it with you.


Turn on your phone with Metro PCS.

Let’s get your phone ready to connect.

Get your SIM card and phone ready.

Find your phone’s unique ID number by dialing *#06#, looking in your phone’s settings, or reading the label under the battery. Your Metro SIM card is also needed.

Pick your plan.

Prepare to choose your phone plan and pay for the first month of service.

Tell us about yourself.

You will need to give your name, address, and phone number, as well as an email address that isn’t already used for a Metro account.

How to turn on your T-Mobile Metro PCS SIM

  1. Open the SIM card tray and put the SIM card in with the device turned off.
  • Find out which SIM card goes into which device by looking at the order confirmation email.

3. Start the thing up. You should be able to use your service.

  • If you have your own device and data isn’t working, add T-APN Mobile’s settings.

Change or turn on an eSIM or SIM card.

  1. Click here and use your T-Mobile ID to sign in to your My T-Mobile account.
  2. If you have more than one line, choose the one whose SIM/eSIM you want to change.
  3. Follow the steps to verify your security.
  4. Choose whether you want to use a physical SIM or an eSIM.
  5. Enter your ICCID or EID number and finish the change by following the steps.
  • Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi and download your eSIM settings if you want to switch to an eSIM.
  • Download the T-Mobile eSIM app if you want to use an eSIM on an iPhone with a prepaid account.
  • If you need help, you can call us or come to a store. For your safety, the request can only be made by the account holder or an authorized user.

I changed or upgraded something.

  1. Open the SIM card tray and put the SIM card in with the device turned off.
  • If your device didn’t come with a SIM card, all you have to do is move the SIM from your old device to your new one, and you’re ready to go.
  • Turn the SIM card on. We don’t recommend using your old SIM card if you want to get the most out of 5G.

Make a T-Mobile account.

T-Mobile app

  1. Open up the app for T-Mobile.
  2. Tap, tap, tap. Get a T-Mobile ID on the screen that says “Welcome.”
  3. Enter the information you used to sign up and tap “Sign me up.”
  4. Enter the code we sent to your phone via text message, then tap Next. Note that if you sign up from your phone, the app may confirm your phone number automatically.
  5. Follow the steps on the screen to finish registering.
